At The Legacy Learning Trust, a local multi-academy trust based in Middlesbrough, we are seeking primary based trainee teachers to learn and grow as professionals within our family of amazing schools:

We are founded on firmly held beliefs that inclusive education and learning are about high expectations, high aspirations and opportunity regardless of background, have been training teachers for over 10 years.

Former trainee teacher, Samantha Hutchinson, completed her training in 2019 after previously working with children in different roles throughout her career.

Sam said: “I gained valuable experience working with children in different settings. I first worked for a private household in London and then had the opportunity to work as an au pair in Australia.

It was through these experiences that made me realise how much I enjoyed working with children and actively helping them learn new skills which led me to a career in teaching.”

After witnessing the children who she worked with progress and grow in confidence, this sparked a passion for education in Sam as she “wanted to make a lasting impact on children’s learning” and the natural stepping stone to do this was to train to be a teacher and turn her passion into a profession.

Choosing this teacher training programme was easy for Sam as the offering was local and presented the opportunity to train in schools she was familiar with which she describes as a “comforting factor” for her. She said: “The school-based training approach was the biggest attraction as I’m incredibly hands-on and was eager to immerse myself in the profession as quickly as possible.”

Our programme offers trainees the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers who mentor them throughout the course and give them valuable insight into the profession ahead of being classroom ready. You will also study towards a PGCE with York St John University, who have been recognised as one of the best ITE providers in the country as well as being rated ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ leadership in the primary age category.

Sam continued: “I was always met with the unwavering support from my mentor, class teacher and course leaders who went above and beyond to help me succeed.

I love working in a large school, feeling part of a team and learning from experienced teachers.

The programme has shaped me into a teacher with my own creative style and I was always given the freedom to explore and develop my own approach.”

After completing the course, Samantha was offered a position within Green Lane Primary Academy as a newly qualified teacher in 2019. She has since shaped her own path and continues to develop her knowledge and skills in the classroom and aspires to take on a leadership role in phonics, a huge passion of hers to build a foundation for children’s success.

Asking what advice she would give to others thinking about a career in teaching she says: “Go for it!

If you have strong interpersonal skills, love working with children and want to be part of something meaningful – this is for you.

If you have the natural ability to connect with children and a passion for helping them grow, you already have what it takes to become a teacher.”

She continues: “You get the immense joy of watching children develop, knowing you are playing a part of shaping their future and that feeling is priceless.”

If you’re thinking about a career in teaching, we are offering places this September to train in one of our six primary schools and work with local partners.
