At TLLT, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We prioritise teaching our pupils about how to stay safe, both in the real world and online. Our approach to safeguarding is built on fostering strong, trusting relationships between learners and staff, alongside a well-rounded PSHE curriculum and life skills learning.
Through the PSHE curriculum, assemblies and work with guest speakers our pupils gain age-appropriate understanding of healthy relationships, are well informed to identify harmful or abusive behaviours, and know how to report any concerns to trusted adults. This education right from the start is crucial for the development of our future generations to have safe and fulfilling relationships in their future.
Our schools collaborate with external agencies who provide access to expert guidance on keeping safe and our programmes emphasise key safety topics like self-awareness and digital literacy as well as teaching learners to recognise potential risks, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge to protect themselves.
Given the increasing importance of digital literacy in today’s society, it’s essential that we go beyond just teaching the basics of online safety. Our schools hold events where learners explore topics like how to spot online manipulation, the ethical use of social media and the importance of mental health online. By running workshops and collaborating with professional guest speakers and mental health advocates, our schools provide learners with a well-rounded perspective on digital safety. Clear channels of communication between school and home help ensure that safeguarding is a shared responsibility.
Safeguarding isn’t just about physical safety; it’s about emotional wellbeing too. Building resilience, self-esteem and a positive sense of identity is part of our Safeguarding Curriculum that helps our learners feel confident in recognising potential risks. Our schools work hard to create inclusive environments where learners feel safe, heard, and empowered—whether they are in the classroom or online.
We strive to ensure that the safeguarding curriculum in our schools is highly flexible to deal with emerging and contextual safeguarding risks to ensure that we deliver the right information, at the right time to ensure our pupils’ safety, wellbeing and happiness.
