A TEESSIDE school that prides itself on having “a big heart” has been praised for its key strengths by Government inspectors.
Green Lane Primary Academy, in Acklam, Middlesbrough, was awarded several ‘Strong’ judgements following its latest Ofsted inspection.
The school had strong standards in: attendance and behaviour; inclusion; leadership and governance; and personal well-being. It was also up to ‘Expected Standards’ for achievement, curriculum and teaching, and early years.
The Ofsted report highlighted the fact that the school’s leaders have worked effectively to support families and pupils to produce improved attendance.
“Pupils demonstrate positive attitudes to learning and trusting relationships between pupils and staff contribute to a calm and orderly environment. Older pupils act as role models for their young peers,” says the report.
Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), along with disadvantaged children, are fully included in school life and benefit from an ambitious curriculum.
“Leaders have a clearly defined vision for the school and make decisions focused on what is best for pupils. They ensure that priorities for development have the best possible outcomes for pupils,” adds the report.
The school – part of The Legacy Learning Trust – has a rich and well-considered programme, helping pupils develop into confident, considerate and responsible young citizens.
Pupils are “courteous, friendly, reflective and highly respectful” and are clear that everyone is treated equally. Pastoral support is “highly effective” with the school swiftly removing barriers to pupils’ wellbeing.
Green Lane Primary Academy’s motto is “A Big School With A Big Heart” and the report says the school’s HEART values are realised through pupils’ hardworking attitudes, enthusiasm and resilience.
The teaching of reading and phonics is at the heart of the curriculum and the report states that: “Pupils thrive in this welcoming school, describing the school as a positive environment where pupils feel safe and that they belong.
Among other points highlighted are that governors and trustees carry out duties effectively, and staff value the support and collaborative networks across the trust, which help them learn and share effective practices.
Headteacher Jackie Walsh said: “We are incredibly proud of our school and delighted that Ofsted inspectors recognised the nurturing, supportive, and hard-working community we have developed at Green Lane.
